Saarland University is a campus university located in Saarbrücken and in Homburg (Medical Faculty and University Teaching Hospital). It enrolls 17,600 students, employs 270 professors, 1,300 other academic staff, 1,500 student teaching and research assistants, 1,400 administrative and technical personnel, 884 persons employed through external funding.

The department of Education is internationally renown for its strength in research but as well as for a strong commitment in the quality of teaching. The focus of research lies on theory based empirical analyses of the conditions of successful processes of learning and instruction. Main topics of research are technology based individual and collaborative acquisition of knowledge, self-regulated learning processes, gifted children and adolescents, educational diagnostics and fostering the acquisition of competencies in and outside schools, the influence of variables of social institutions on educational processes, adaptive and personalised TEL. The teaching comprises the whole spectrum of education and instructional psychology for teacher education (1-12), the educational psychology modules for the major psychology programs (BSc, MSc) and last but not least a Master program “Educational Technology”.
