The University of the Philippines (UP) is the country’s national university. Since its establishment in 1908, UP’s mandate is to give “advanced instruction in literature, philosophy, the sciences and arts, and to give professional and technical training” to every qualified student regardless of “age, sex, nationality, religious belief and political affiliation.”
The University is one of the 3 Philippine universities affiliated with the ASEAN University Network. It is the only Philippine university to be affiliated with the ASEAN-European University Network and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
The University has both residential and distance (online, open) training programs for students (over 60,000). It also has interactive learning centres that support learning experiences in UP campuses and other locations. The University pioneers the use of learning management systems in the country.
